Joseph Findley Harris is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) through the state of Texas and works with children, adolescents, and adults to help navigate through a variety of life’s stressors. He believes that genuine, warm, and accepting relationships form the foundation for lasting change in life. Through his approach, Findley aims to create a space for clients to open up, gain insight, and learn the tools to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
Findley believes in the importance of going beyond just treating the symptoms on the surface, but rather helping his clients to get in touch with what is truly meaningful and important in their lives, and then living in accordance with what matters most, even when it’s difficult and uncomfortable to do so. Findley emphasizes an adherence to evidence-based approaches and techniques and is trained in two forms of Behavioral Therapy (CBT), called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
When working with adolescents, Findley believes in providing a level of autonomy, as this is vital to creating the safe and accepting therapeutic space which provides the foundation of growth. While providing this safe space, Findley also believes communication with parents is vital, and he stresses the importance of ongoing communication through parent meetings for all to stay on the same page and to help the child/adolescent continue to thrive while in the home environment.
Findley received his Bachelor of Science in psychology from Texas A&M, then earned his Master of Science in counseling from Southern Methodist University. Findley then gained specialized training in crisis work at Adapt Community Solutions, where he frequently worked with those in acute crisis. Findley is now a certified crisis worker through the American Association of Suicidology and has extensive training and experience working with those who have thoughts of suicide and self-harm.
Before joining the team at Davis Counseling Center, Findley worked at Beckloff Pediatric Behavioral Center, where he gained diverse experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of concerns.
Findley’s areas of focus include anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, specific phobias, and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), as well as depression depression, suicidal ideation, and self-harm.
