Janel Smith is a licensed professional counselor with over 10 years of experience counseling in a variety of settings. She works at cultivating a supportive environment for the therapeutic relationship to develop for her client’s goals, insight, emotional health, and healing from past pain. She believes counseling is designed to be a unique setting where clients can reflect upon their experiences and express themselves freely without fear of judgment.
Janel is passionate about partnering with couple’s as they navigate the stages of their relationship, deepen their friendship, manage conflict, and repair from past hurts. She helps couples learn to replace negative conflict patterns with positive interactions and increase intimacy, respect, and affection. Janel is a Prepare/Enrich facilitator and is trained to use Gottman Method Couples Therapy in her work with couples.
Janel earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Old Dominion University. She holds a Master of Arts in Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary. Janel worked many years for the U.S. Army serving Soldiers, Wounded Warriors, and their families in crisis and during readjustment. Janel also currently serves as a counselor and mentors other counselors at Dallas LIFE homeless shelter. She is passionate about counseling adults and couples from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds facing issues such as trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, grief, and stage of life transitions.
