Dr. Damion Davis is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas and founder of the Davis Counseling Center, PLLC. Dr. Davis is trained to work with adults and couples with differing degrees of emotional and relational issues. Dr. Davis takes a holistic approach to counseling, which means viewing the person in their entirety. Whatever the presenting problem, it is part of a bigger picture and is connected to other aspects of the client’s life. Dr. Davis’ goal is to create a positive therapeutic environment, assist the client with gaining insight, and collaborate on strategies to overcome the present problem. In addition to gaining insight, Dr. Davis’ approach includes exploring subconscious motivations and highlighting the connections between thoughts-feelings-actions and past experiences.
Dr. Davis earned his B.A. from the University of Texas at Arlington and a M.Ed. in Counseling from the University of North Texas, specializing in adolescent, adult, multicultural counseling. Dr. Davis completed his Ph.D. in Counseling and Counselor Education at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Before founding the Davis Counseling Center, Dr. Davis was an Associate Partner at the Beckloff Pediatric Behavioral Center.
While counseling, Dr. Davis creates an egalitarian relationship, where joint efforts reveal insight and create a plan of action. Collaboration is key and leads to growth and understanding. Dr. Davis believes that culture is an essential part of a person’s identity and factors racial understanding into the counseling process.
Dr. Davis is professionally a member of the American Counseling Association, the Texas Counseling Association, the American Psychological Association, and the Association of Black Psychologists. Dr. Davis is a preferred mental health professional for the Dallas Mavericks. In addition to therapeutic practice, Dr. Davis is an adjunct professor of Counseling.
